My wifes g500 lenovo has a video problem. It uses the intel on-board chipset. When booting at the end of the logo screen as it goes to the log-on screen, the screen goes flaky for several seconds. It goes white/jumbled then clears at the logo screen. It also occasionally does the same thiong when switching between pix on the screen save. I downloaded the latest video drivers and that didn't seem to help. Anybody have any ideas on this? I've had pretty good luck with Lenovos in the past but this one has been a pain. Already had to replace the hd (under warranty). It's out of warranty now (of course). _________________ "A veteran... is someone who... wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America for an amount “up to and including my life”. Are you sure it picked up an updated driver? I've seen some installers work in a situation where maybe the driver you already had on the hard drive was the most current, and you download and try to install the same driver...the installer looks at the driver version and says to itself "this is already installed" and doesn't overwrite the "already installed" (and maybe corrupted) driver file.
You could try uninstalling the driver. Then reboot to a rescue-type boot CD, delete the driver file from the Windows directory it's in on the hard drive, and then reboot from the hard drive. _________________ Ash

I would suggest that you
Check the Lenovo Video with external display
- if it does the same thing, then it is not the internal display, but could still be the internal video hardware or driver.
Also try with a live Linux boot disk to see if the video does the same problem or if it does not, it is the driver.
- Replacing a Lenovo screen is much cheaper from other suppliers than Lenovo itself, if that is the problem. Sometimes you have to wait until Lenovo no longer offers any warranty service for that model screen before you can get the parts cheap. |
