| Spurred on my Nick's glee, I purchased a droid today - the kind that has a keyboard. Oh do I love it. I am not interested in the new droid coming out next week - The Incredible. |

Congratulations are in order.
My wife didn't think she needed something like the Droid or any smart phone for that matter. I talked her into it and do you think I ever get to play with it? Heck no!
FYI
Most useful apps so far:
Active Sync for connecting to corporate Outlook
Weather Bug
App Zapper - Droid has a lot of memory but being able to multitask can chew it up in a hurry. App Zapper monitors all apps memory usage and shuts down unwanted resource hogs.
Though we don't use it much the free Google maps are also great. No more need for GPS |

No! I'm keeping my Blackberry! It has too much power for me to get rid of! Too much power, I say!!!! BWU-HAHAHAHAHA!
Seriously, until Droid has an Edocrab (http://www.edocrab.com/) or a Rove Mobile Admin (http://www.roveit.com/), my Blackberry will remain my smartphone of choice.
While the Edocrab software is an application useful for a home user, I live and die by Mobile Admin. Of course, the issue is the target market. Droid is competing most strongly with the home market that has been dominated by the iPhone. By all reports, it is a worthy competitor. However, the Blackberry has been since its inception geared towards the Enterprise user. While it has attempted inroads into the home market, it hasn't had that success compared to the iPhone or the Droid.
However, as with any product, a user needs to look at whether a product fulfills their needs and not whether it is popular or cool. I could get an iPad, for example, but one of the upcoming HP Slates is likely to suit my purposes far better. The Droid is a great device but the Blackberry allows me to do my job as an IT professional far better. (Being able to reset passwords and accounts, run SQL queries, reset services on user computers or the servers or even reboot the servers remotely is extremely important to me. I use these features regularly and until Droid does this as easily, it doesn't match my needs.) |

Does it have to be called edocrab? Our droid scans barcodes and tells us the best prices and where they are found. That app came with the droid on day one. Shop Savy worked flawlessly for us over the holidays.
Roveit is already looking for droid beta testers. It would stand to reason they already plan an app for the Droid. Though it certainly wouldn't be logical for corporate IT professionals to jump ship during the first year of a new platforms release, I wouldn't hold it against Droid that Roveit hasn't developed their Android app yet. It's just a matter of time before you can have a better piece of hardware like us |
