Running Windows 10 Pro here after an uneventful upgrade. Then I recorded what my key was and did a clean install via usb flash drive. I am running Classic Shell. Latest version came out yesterday. 4.2.4.

Bob, can you fill us in a little on what Classic Shell gives us for Win 10?

Early on, I had it installed on a Win 8 installation. Win 8 really needed that!

Then, another machine with 8.1 arrived, and I found it to be usable enough I did not bother with the CS. And, I think 10 is probably even more to my liking.

So, please tell us what you like with Classic Shell on Windows 10.

What I like about Classic Shell is that it gives me the option to have a plain and simple start menu. The tree view is what I prefer and simple is what I prefer also. Everything is at the end of my cursor and is a familiar one or two clicks away. Windows 98 all the way ! 🙂

Sure, but those features have returned in Win 10. Normal left click on the start button replacement, and you get the desktop with the tiles and junk, and a list type of menu running down the left side of the screen. But a right click gives you the nice clean desktop with with icons for what you have placed there, and a menu that is close to what Win 7 (or XP) had.

No question Classic Shell was a must for Win 8. Then 8.1 started the migration back to what normal people wanted. In thinking back to my brief experiment with 8 and Classic Shell and comparing it to Win 10, I think 10 has incorporated most of the features of CS.

To be sure, I haven’t found some old favorites in Win 10. What has happened to the HELP & SUPPORT menu item? And so far, there isn’t much support thru Google for Win 10. Most queries give you answers for 8.1, and 10 has had a lot of stuff moved around and renamed (or maybe in the App store).

Yes, but it is a matter of preference and my preference remains an old style start menu. And Classic Shell still allows me to have that. Just one strip, straight up and down. Simple.
