It seems to come up every week. The guys mention rootkits and how you must move the infected drive to another PC to fix it. However, there’s several liveCDs available which make that step unnecessary. By using a liveCD, no software on the infected hard drive is run, so it works just as well as removing the hard drive. In fact, it’s safer since you don’t run the risk of infecting the second PC that you’d have used for doing the scan.
Here’s two articles which explain how to use two of the more popular live scanning CDs. I don’t see it mentioned in the articles but you should not use the infected computer to download and burn the CDs.
