For over 3 weeks I have been lucky enough to be in the area where Time Warner is not carrying CBS content. I though I had the perfect solution by hooking my laptop to the TV and accessing streaming CBS content on line. Silly me! Apparently all CBS content is being blocked.
Is there a way to get around this by not having TWC recognized as my ISP? Would Open DNS acheive this for me? Any other thoughts or suggestions.
OpenDNS won’t change your IP address (which is how someone can tell which ISP you’re using). You’d need some kind of http proxy or VPN service. Those usually cost money and I don’t know if they would all be fast enough to do video acceptably. If you find such a service, be careful. It will be able to see information you send or receive when you’re not using https.
I built one of those DIY HDTV antennas a couple years ago out of spare parts and it works great. Several designs available, I made one out of coat hangers, coax and a couple 2′ long 1×3’s. 10 miles from source and signal was better than 90% most of the time.
I found this VPN service which should do what you want as it’s made for video streaming. It seems mostly designed to allow people in other countries to use a US Netflix account, and it’s not free at $4.99/mo.
