Yes, the poll here has great bearing on the way the computer world ticks.
I don’t actually disagree with anything you said about Windows 8. I guess the poll question isn’t meant to apply to those using a non-Windows OS since you can only upgrade from an older copy of Windows. I still run Windows 2000 and XP for controlling a scanner and watching Netflix. They’re running on a virtual machine and isolated from the internet so I don’t see any reason to upgrade them.
For those who want to do a lot of reading, Wikipedia has articles similar to these two for each version of Windows.
Hypothetically speaking, what if Classic Shell didn’t exist? What OS would you use then? Actually, as far as I understand, the 8.1 update added back the start menu.
Some (cheaper) tablets come with a special version of Windows 8 called Windows RT. Be careful if you’re getting this version as it restricts you from installing apps outside of the Windows App Store. There’s some advantages to that but it might come as a surprise for those who are used to installing apps from anywhere.
