Update: Now 128 members! WOW!
I put Win 8 up here early on in a dual-boot configuration. And, taking the advice of RacerBob, installed Classic Shell. For me, Win 8 doesn’t really turn me on — far too many things restricted to using Micros**t apps.
On the Win 7 side of things I installed a copy of Win 8 in VirtualBox — but kept that ‘pure’ with no add-ons. And, I did not try to activate that since I had already used my license key. But, it did install in the VB just fine, and no real problems.
I updated to 8.1 on the ‘real’ installation. Haven’t played with that enough to tell if it is an improvement. Tried to update the VirtualBox installation, but get a error message that my CPU doesn’t meet their requirements. As near as I can find, this is due to VirtualBox not passing something thru to the OS. However, it must have for the original install! There was even one ‘fix’ found where VB could have some switch set to correct this, but that didn’t happen in my case.
So, that side still runs Win 8.0 which is not activated. And since I haven’t given it a Micros**t account, I don’t get anything from the app store.
I haven’t seen, so far, any good reason to switch the primary OS here from 7 to 8.1. Might better make Linux the primary OS.
