Linux Cinnamon: HDMI Video Plays at Double-Speed

Seems like this is a known problem with AMD cards. This fix assumes you have an AMD card.

First, edit /etc/default/grub and change this line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash”

to this line

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash radeon.audio=1″

Now run “sudo update-grub“, then reboot your computer.

Next, change the driver in the Driver Manager from the recommended x-server x.org driver to the AMD fglrx driver. Again, reboot.

  1. I couldn’t remember the caller’s hardware. I found another possible cause, also hardware specific but for Intel graphics, and with a similar solution. http://soundbytes.org/forums/topic/sped-up-video-over-hdmi/#post-3607
